This is our first vintage of the red wine we call Trebella, a classic Meritage blend. It has been carefully crafted to be a big, rich wine with intense fruit flavours, soft tannins and velvety mouthfeel. The goal was to produce a wine that offers immense drinking pleasure early in its life, but that also carries enough structure to allow for cellaring into the medium term.
Very dark red in colour, the wine opens with intense sweet black cherry and black currant aromas with hints of cocoa and vanilla.
On the palate, the wine is incredibly full, rich, and seductive. A symphony of black-fruited flavours flood the senses and compliment the incredibly silky mouthfeel and fresh, cleansing acidity.
The 2012 growing season was a tale with two parts. Up until the second half of July, the weather was very cool and extremely wet. The spring was one of the wettest in 100 years. From the middle of July until harvest, the weather turned very warm and dry, virtually perfect weather for ripening grapes. As long as crop loads were held in check, all grapes were able to ripen perfectly with intense flavours.
The grapes for this wine were picked from our vineyards in the South Okanagan Valley on October 15th-18th, 2012. The fruit was hand-picked, hand-sorted, destemmed and fermented on skins for an average of 8-10 days. The wine from each parcel of fruit was aged separately for 18 months in the finest French oak barrels. The parcels were carefully blended together and bottled in June 2014.
