This is the first release from the south block of the Limestone vineyard. Located on the Twenty Mile Bench, the 14-year old block is farmed sustainably. In a warm growing season like 2012, Riesling reached optimal ripeness and exceptional intensity. Lively acidity, sought after to balance the ripe aromatic profile, was ensured by harvesting early. The nose is intense, dominated by aromatic notes of lime zest and candied orange with a hint of honeysuckle. Citrus notes replay on the palate- think pink grapefruit and lemon curd- balanced by a touch of Asian pear and flinty minerality.
The fine balance between sweetness and acidity makes this Riesling extremely versatile. While perfectly enjoyable on its own, it pairs beautifully with seafood and fish. Try it with scallop ceviche, white fish with mango salsa or salt and pepper shrimp skewers. It is also a great match for spicier fare like samosas or a Thai curry.
