From the 8 year-old vines of the certified organic and biodynamic Quarry Road Estate vineyard. Viticultural practices included vertical shoot positioning, shoot thinning, cluster thinning, hand leaf removal and hand harvest. Planted on mixed limestone and clay soils, this 11 acre block is farmed organically and biodynamically and produces vibrant Rieslings with distinct minerality. 2014 was a cool vintage which is ideal for Riesling and the Quarry Road is a perfect example of this.
Tawse has been producing single-vineyard Riesling from the Quarry estate vineyard since 2009. Very aromatic with mandarin orange, peach and floral notes prominent on the nose. A beautifully textured wine with bright acidity and a long finish; the influence of the limestone and clay soil of the Quarry Road Vineyard shows through with the distinct minerality found on the palate. Flavours of citrus and peach share the palate with hints of sweet and sour candy.
The fine balance between sweetness and acidity makes this Riesling extremely food-friendly. While perfectly enjoyable on its own, it pairs beautifully with seafood, fish and poultry and can even handle a little heat. Try it with scallop ceviche, halibut tacos with guacamole or even jerk chicken!
