Viticultural practices included vertical shoot positioning, shoot thinning, cluster thinning, hand-leaf removal and hand-harvest. The Cherry Avenue Vineyard is the oldest estate planting of Pinot Noir. Planted in 2005, this low-yield vineyard is farmed organically and biodynamically. As the vines age, it produces wines of increasing depth and complexity.
The 9 year-old vines of the Cherry Avenue estate vineyard are producing wines of increasing depth and complexity. This is evident on the expressive nose of the 2011 Cherry Pinot with its ripe notes of black cherry, violet and a hint of graphite. On the palate, the fruit continues with lively notes of cranberry, pomegranate, and a touch of spice from 14 months in French oak.
Pinot is renowned for being an extremely food-friendly wine and the 2011 Cherry is no exception. Because of its ripe fruity character and structure, it can handle dishes that are richer than the traditional Pinot pairings! While it would pair beautifully with a sausage and arugula wood-fired pizza, it is also substantial enough to complement Boeuf Bourguignon or glazed beef short ribs!
