Growing Conditions

2012 was the best Okanagan Valley vintage I have seen since arriving back in 2008 and one of the best since starting in the industry over 15 years ago. As a viticulturist I don’t think I could have asked for a better growing season; a typical spring with average rainfall and temperatures from mid April to mid June which lessened the use of irrigation. From June to the end of August we had incredible weather with temperatures in the mid to high twenties and little rainfall, flowering in June and July went through without delay due to the ideal temperatures and low rainfall. Through the critical veraison period of mid August through to harvest the daytime temperatures were perfect for ripening in the low to mid twenties and the night time temperatures ideal in the range of 10 to 15 degrees which kept the acidity levels almost perfect. All the parcels of fruit that came into the winery had a perfect balance of flavours, sugar levels and acidity with no disease and next to no shriveling of the berries. ~ Chris Carson
