Planted in 2001, the South Bay vineyard is located in Prince Edward County and is a mix of clay, loam, shale loam and limestone. Conventional farming methods.
Eager to explore the diverse terroirs of Ontario, Tawse Winery and Huff Estates exchanged fruit from the 2013 vintage. We were keen to try our winemaking methods on Chardonnay from “The County”, just to see how important terroir actually is. In return, Huff did the same with our Quarry Road Pinot Noir. Barrel fermented and aged for 12 months, the result is a Chardonnay with aromas of minerality, tropical fruits and oak spice. The palate is lean and crisp with bright acidity and minerality; with hints of crisp Bosc pear and toast.
The minerality and fruitiness of this Chardonnay will pair nicely with beet salad, scallop ceviche or grilled calamari sprinkled with fresh lemon.
