About the winery

Back in the early 80′s, Bruce Schmidt worked in the wine and spirits division of Nabisco Brands Canada and was responsible for the national marketing for Calona Wines, then one of the industry leaders. This is where he developed his interest in wine and the Okanagan wine industry. While a business consultant in Vancouver during the 90′s, Bruce helped finance the early expansion of Blue Mountain Vineyards and Cellars and with that found his passion for the burgeoning estate wine sector in the Southern Okanagan. Waiting for that ideal property, he and a partner purchased an existing mixed-fruit orchard in 2005 and they developed a 10 acre vineyard (20,000 plants) focused primarily on Merlot. Looking also for some reasonably unique whites, Viognier and Riesling were also planted on the property.
