From the 40 year-old vines of the Carly’s Block Estate Vineyard. Viticultural practices include vertical shoot positioning, shoot shinning, cluster thinning, hand-leaf removal and hand-harvest. The advanced age of the vines results in consistent yields year after year despite colder than normal winters. The 2014 growing season produced an even bigger crop than usual.
The Carly’s Block Vineyard is one of the oldest Riesling plantings in Niagara and is well known for producing fruit of exceptional quality and complexity. Carly’s Block is a wine that is very complex and ever changing, and truly worthy of being deemed Tawse’s flagship Riesling. The first impression on the nose is the typical petrol notes that the established vineyard is known for, which is quickly followed by wet stone and fresh peach. The palate is treated to a hint of sweetness balanced by notes of lemon meringue pie, granny smith apple and minerality.
The beautiful balance of minerality, sweet citrus and acidity results in a wine that is a pleasure to pair. Enjoy it with parmesan and fresh green pea risotto, ham and cheese crepes or shrimp tacos with guacamole.
